"Bwahahaha," laughed all the drunks. "C'mon pretty, sing us a song!"
Lapis shrank away from the drunks. What on earth was their problem? He was a mute and they knew it.
"Hey, Lazuli, just do a dance for them to shut them up," said another male prostitute in the bar part of the gay brothel.
Lapis just nodded glumly as he put on his mask with a wig attached and took out his fans.
He attracted alot of attension while dancing . . .
The manager stood in one corner smoking his pipe. "Hu, it is a good thing that raised that little punk . . . He gets us alot of money."

Morana stood by the window watching. No one had noticed the vampire standing there. She looked up, the moon was high tonight. Higher then it had been in a while. Strange.. its never that high... She thought to herself.

As he finished his dance and atempted to slink away, the manager grabbed his arm and dragged back to the cage-like area outside to attract customers.
"Can't we call it a night? I need to sleep!" Lapis whined. Fortunetly, the manager could hear his mind.
"Not yet doll, not yet," said the manager.

Lapis looked at her sadly. "Here there is no right or wrong, young lady," his mind said. "I am a prostitute here, for I owe my life to them."

"I dont care. You may owe your life to them but being treated like an animal is just bloody wrong." She pulled out a small pocket knife and started to pick at the lock. "You shouldnt be treated like an animal."

"Ah! You shouldn't do that, miss, he 'said' worridly. "It's alright, I'm treated a bit better than the rest because I'm the 'doll'. I don't mind being here too much." He smiled kindly and pried her hand off of the lock.

She looked at him. "Well I say you should be a 'doll'. Its just as bad as treating a person like there an animal."

Lapis's fuzzy ears twitched. "Quick, hide! The manager is coming!" he was worried that she might get caught.

Morana looked over her shoulder and swore under her breath before hiding in a bush near by.

"Hey, doll, I thought I heard someone chatting with you," said the manager, approaching Lapis. "Another customer? I thought you wanted to call it a night."
Lapis shook his head and smiled his alluring 'doll' smile. "Twas just a cute little rabbit. You must have been hearing things, sire." said he.

Morana kept herself where she was instead of diving out and stabbing the manager in the back.

"You should go back inside, it's warmer there. It's a cold evening," Lapis Lazuli smiled as he shooed his boss back into the bar.
"It is safe now, miss. You can come out," said he.

"Please, Morana-dono," Lapis Lazuli pleaded, trying to pry her hands off the lock again. "You musn't do this! I do not want you to get into trouble because of me! Besides, there are others here that are in same boat as me. It isn't that bad, really." he smiled kindly and gazed up at the setting moon. The sun would rise soon.
"The manager spoils me sometimes because I am a beautiful doll," he whispered. "My happiness . . . though it may not be true happiness . . . is to repay those who have saved me. I am allowed to leave during the day and have my freedom, but I will always return by sundown to repay my debt."
